Jogen Chowdhury : Man Lying In the Bed

Printed under the close supervision of artist Jogen Chowdhury, ‘Man Lying in the Bed’ features his highly emotive and uninterrupted lines. Carrying a sense of isolation, his figures channel the agony and pain, which is an innate part of human existence. Having experienced the terrors of partition, his art is a form of self-expression and an echo of the personal and collective consciousness.

Born in 1939 in Faridpur, Jogen Chowdhury completed his graduation in Fine Art from the Government College of Arts and Crafts, Kolkata (1960), where he received a gold medal in watercolour painting. He later studied in France from 1965 to 1967 on a Government Scholarship at Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts, Paris.
