Printed under the close supervision of artist Krishen Khanna, this work belongs to his iconic bandwallahs, which reminisce about the musicians of the pre-independence era. This popular series evokes a celebratory mood and captures the musicians who usually lead wedding processions in India, playing grand instruments in their red ensembles.

Born in Lyallpur (now Faislabad, Pakistan) in 1925, pre-partition India, Krishen Khanna is a genre painter and a narrativist who studied at the Mayo School of Art, Lahore. His migration to Shimla, India, after the Partition of India and Pakistan and the chaos following the aftermath deeply impacted him and became the inspiration behind his early works.
