Subhash Vyam’s paintings belong to the Pardhan-Gond tradition of stippled painting prominent in the Gond community in Madhya Pradesh. The subjects of his paintings include birds, animals, mythological deities and folk narratives, as well as various aquatic life forms.
Born in the village of Sonpuri, near Patangarh, in Madhya Pradesh, Subhash Vyam is a well-known Pardhan-Gond artist like his wife Durgabai and his acclaimed brother, Jangarh Singh Shyam. He was awarded the ‘Rajya Hastha Shilpa Puraskar’ by the Government of Madhya Pradesh in 2002.
